In this meeting we covered pages 27-52. If you’re following along with an E-book that doesn’t have page numbers, its from the topic “Defining Panentheism” until the topic “Hermeticism in Witchcraft”. Now we really are getting deeper!

Favorite Quote

At the start of every meeting I want to share my favorite quote(s) from the book, and I highly encourage you to share yours as well!

My Quote: Every Cause has its effect; every Effect has its Cause; everything happens according to Law; Chance is but a name for Law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the Law. (pg 51)

This line, echoing the Hermetic “law” of the universe, reminds me that our choices, thoughts, and intentions always ripple outward. We don’t control everything, but we do shape how we meet the world and interact with the energies around us.

The Big Ideas

The Ineffable
- Heron talks about divinity as being imminent. We are not separated from the “all”, from the “isness”, from the magick. That “ineffable” (something which can’t be put into words) Lives both within us and around us. I love the reminder on how connected we all are.
Words Have Power
- That is most certainly, way more than just a saying! Even spelling choices (magick vs. magic; deity labels; inclusive forms) are all intentional. I love how the book places a big emphasis on this. As a certified NLP therapist, I’ve seen how language guides the mind and how much of your unconscious is revealed through your conversations. This transfers into your craft. Your words guide the energy. When you write spells, rituals, or other workings, you need to be mindful of what you choose to say. It’s important to be specific on what you want to get the best results. Let me know if you want videos made on this to help better explain things.
Witchcraft Evolves
- Practices and spirituality adapt with people, context, and time. What has worked for witches 100 years ago, might not work for us in this modern world. I think it’s important to learn from different paths and a variety of people. This way, you’re able to incorporate what resonates with you and what works for your path, and leave the rest. Your spiritual path is your own, set at a pace and intensity that’s right, just for you. You don’t need to conform to any specific belief system, unless that’s what you feel is right for you. Witchcraft is better defined by what we DO than what we’re told to believe. Afterall, that’s why its a “craft”.
Locus of Control and Mindset Magic
- Witches are aware that there are outside forces which can be out of our control. But, we witches, also know that we are able to control how we respond and react to those forces, and how to weave them to our favor. We also talked a lot about how language and your word choices can become self fulfilling. (Remember, words have power! Thought, spoken, and written) I’ve shared a few examples in the video, but one of them is how your day will go. If you start your morning with a thought of “Today is going to be awful…” Then your day will most likely match that energy. Yet, if you start off with a positive affirmation, such as “Today I will have a good day, I’m prepared and ready to be my best and do my best.” You’ll probably have the day you’ve manifested. Keep an eye out for my post on daily affirmations!
The Book of Mirrors
- Within these pages we get introduced to “the book of mirrors” as Heron describes it. In short, it’s a witches daily journal where they’re able to track their progress in their craft and spiritual journey. I’m an avid lover of journaling, I have quite a few videos on my youtube to prove that haha. So I really like how she describes the reason for you to work daily in your book of mirrors and how it benefits you as a practitioner. And I especially like how she points out that writing things out by-hand strengthens your energy with it! Heron makes some recommendations of what you can include in your daily entries. I’ve created a list for you to reference with some of her suggestions as well as what I include in my journal. I also try to post a reminder for you to journal in my Instagram stories, so make sure you’re following me there 🥰

These are just suggestions and you don’t need to include everything! For example, I tend to keep track of everything in the first image on a daily basis. And then incorporate things from the second image when I need to. You don’t need to follow these, and I highly encourage you to create something that would resonate with you for your journal.

Hermetic Echoes and the Seven Principles
- We touched on some correspondences with alchemy (salt/body, sulfur/soul, mercury/spirit), and the classic seven principles. Some of them, I feel can be combined together, but 7 seems like a good number to label them as. They are listed below.
  1) Mentalism: the universe is mind (I also read this as consciousness/Spirit).
  2) Correspondence: As above, so below.
  3) Vibration: everything moves; everything vibrates (hello, physics + energetics) I love it when science and magick can be explained together!
  4) Polarity & 5) Rhythm: paired opposites and tides; balance and swing.
  6) Cause & Effect: choice, consequence, and accountability.
  7) Gender: masculine & feminine principles in all planes. This is not the same as biological sex or pronouns, and everyone carries both in unique balance.

It was a lot to take in! This book is absolutely a text-book for witchcraft and I’m happy we’re taking it a bite at a time.
