The Enchanted Book Coven (Elemental Witchcraft Pages 53-78)
Live Book Club Meetings Every Tuesday!
Blessings to all of you beautiful beings!
Oh my goodness! This is our third meeting already! here we covered pages 53-78. If you’re following along with an E-book that doesn’t have page numbers, it’s from the topic “Tenets of Hermetic Modern Witchcraft” until the 2nd Meditation. I’m loving how much wisdom and insight we explored already!
If you couldn’t make it live, or if you’re joining us now, don’t worry! I’ve put together a quick summery for you in this post, or you can watch the full replay with all the details (here).
Favorite Quote
At the start of every meeting I want to share my favorite quote(s) from the book, and I highly encourage you to share yours as well!
(Depictions of divinity) They are arrows that point in the direction of truth, but don’t confuse the arrow for the destination or you’ll miss the most exciting part of the trip. (pg 60)
This is such a wonderful reminder! Don’t fully focus on the “end” of your spiritual journey (if there even is one?) because you have so much still to learn and experience along your path. Side quests are definitely a thing!
When you look for “god”, no matter what you find, you are partially correct. (pg 65)
I feel as though this quote can be dissected into so many different levels. What I really enjoy about it, is that it puts into perspective that “god” or “divinity” is all around us, and we ARE able to connect with those energies. We only need to try.
A gentle reminder my loves. If you’re participating or thinking about it, there’s no rush and no pressure. Move at your own rhythm, catch replays when it suits you, and join the chat whenever you’re called. You don’t even need to read the book! Just bring your curiosity and cozy up with our witchy book coven. We have lots of magickal fun here.
The Big Ideas
The Three World Model
Heron describes a multiform cosmos where spiritual, mental, and physical planes run concurrently. Similar to threads in one tapestry. I love how this reframes our everyday life: nothing is “just” mundane; everything is nested, mirrored, and humming with meaning.
Words as Wands, Magick and Speech
Just as we’ve talked about it in our previous meeting, words have power! I think’s it’s a very important lesson for any practitioner to take, and I’m glad she is repeating it over and over again. We also revisited the mirroring principle: “As above, so below.” The language we choose now echoes across planes. Spells, prayers, and casual self-talk are all currents we’re sending out.
Try this mini-practice: For one day, speak to yourself as you would to a beloved friend. See what shifts.
Interconnection and the “Rule of Three”
The book touches the familiar three-fold law/karma idea. I don’t accept this “rule” in a structured sense. Personally, I absolutely believe every action has a reaction, but not necessarily as a neat ×3 equation. Reality is more gradient than a calculator. Intention, timing, consent, and context matter. How was this specific “3” calculated and why? And by whom?
Reincarnation
Yes, yes, yes! I deeply believe in reincarnation. Even if you look at it from a scientific “matter/energy cannot be created or destroyed” lens, things don’t just “disappear” I believe that our consciousness transforms and continues. I have read lots of stories, and am endlessly fascinated by children’s past-life memories that later check out historically. Have you had any experiences that made you believe reincarnation is possible?
Free Will
Heron emphasizes free will, and how witches claim power over their own live and take responsibility for their choices. She also brings up the quote “an it harm none, do what ye will.” I’m not only love and light”… I value compassion and boundaries. I won’t start a fight, but I will finish one if I must. In the video, I also shared a spell I’ve done in the past in regards to a coworker I didn’t get along with. I explained how I maintained giving her free will, while still getting a result that’s beneficial to me. It’s also at this point where Heron starts to contradict herself on the “love and light” philosophy…
Next time you’re doing any spellwork, check yourself. Are you choosing a result for someone or are you opening paths they can choose from?
Establishing a Mediation practice
The first meditation exercise in our book helps us create a meditation “space” within our minds. She provides a guide and a way to help you create that space. I’ve been practicing meditation for quite a while (over a decade now), and I already have my own “space” created, so I didn’t follow along with her. Though I am thinking of recording her meditations into a video, and turning them into guided meditations. I feel like that might help some people to visualize and get into the right mindset? Let me know if that’s something you would be interested in.
The Witches Jewel of Divinity
The author presents a great model, featuring three nested octahedrons. They represent Divinity, Celestial Innermost, and the Physical realms. It’s a great introduction to sacred geometry and why so many similar images have been used throughout. I like to think of it as a focus tool for meditation and magickal workings. You’re able to have “somewhat” a visual “map” type of thing. This way, you’re able to be more precise on which energy you’re trying to work with.
Outermost facets: modalities (cardinal, fixed, mutable)—the cosmic cycle or birth, life, and death.
Intermediate facets: seven celestial spheres shaping pattern, destiny, and creativity.
Innermost facets: material beings, everything from minerals to humans to molecules.
Wiccan Poetry
Going through this book, we definitely noticed a lot of Wiccan ideologies present. Which should be no surprise that she has included sacred poetries from that religion. Such as “The Charge of the Goddess” and “Rede of the Wiccae”. Although beautiful, they are from an organized religion, which I am not part of. Though I do honor what resonates and release what doesn’t. Take what sings to your bones. And in all honesty, when I first came across these (over a decade ago when I started exploring different paths), they reminded me a lot of scriptures and readings from the bible. I always find it fascinating when different religions cross over with similar imagery and symbolism.
Divine Love that Doesn’t Abandon
A passage I adored about the relationship with a witch and deities. That relationship is not transactional. No quid pro quo, no “do this or else,” no being cast out. In my experience, that lands like home. You can’t be forsaken by what is woven through everything. And I love the reminder that I will not be abandoned by the divinity around me, no matter which path I choose.
The Four Rules of Personal Sovereignty
Overall, I think these are some good rules to follow. What are your thoughts?
1) Don’t Burn the Witch (Self-Care & Compassion)
Rest, nourishment, hydration, body care, mental health, pleasure. Self-care isn’t a reward; it’s infrastructure for effective magic.
2) Don’t Be the Problem (Effectiveness & Ethics)
Shadow work = tending trauma responses with honesty. Our reactions ripple and move energy, let’s make them intentional.
3) Don’t Be the Weak Link (Severity & Responsibility)
We’re all strands in one web. Responsibility isn’t harshness, it’s integrity in motion. We witches are responsible for taking accountability of our actions and reactions to what is around us.
4) Must Be Present to Win (Mindfulness & Activism)
Witchcraft isn’t passive. Show up, pay attention, speak with care. Protection and compassion can coexist. Heron reminds us that wisdom arrives when we’re ready. You can’t binge-unlock the Mysteries (tempting though!). Keep showing up and the doors will open, exactly on time.
As we keep going along, I’m finding more things I don’t fully agree with, and I’m also noticing some contradictions the author makes between the chapters. Let me know if you have any additional thoughts or comments on the pages we went over today. I really enjoy having the discussions on my videos, and they can certainly be explored further here!
I’m very excited to see you at our next meeting! We’ll be going over pages 79-102.
Many Blessings,
Elena
