Beltane and May Altar Set-Up
Let’s take a deeper dive into how I set up my Altars.
Hello lovely soul! I recently shared a video on YouTube of how I set up my altars for Beltane and the month of May. (click here to watch) I figured it could be helpful to offer a deeper look, and a more detailed breakdown, with some insights from my perspective as to “why” I did things this way.
What you’ll find here, is a glimpse into my own private practice from my own personal path. Altars and spiritual places are unique and deeply personal. There is no “right” way to set them up or how to use them. This is what feels right for me right now, and I hope it can inspire you to find what works for you. Take what resonates, leave the rest, don’t be afraid to ask questions if you need to. Most importantly, always trust your intuition.
I’ve set up altars in both my living room and my office space. While they share a few common elements, each one holds its own unique energy and purpose.
The altar in my living room is more of a shared, communal space. It’s open and visible to anyone who visits. It carries a “hearth and home” kind of energy, warm and grounding. Here, I’ve included the Wheel of the Year and symbols that reflect seasonal shifts and household harmony. Because it’s in a more public area, I tend to keep this altar more general and don’t usually use it for spellwork or deeply personal rituals. It serves more as a sacred focal point for the home, a gentle reminder of connection, presence, and seasonal flow.
The altar in my office feels much more intimate. It is a quieter, more personal space tucked away just for me. Here, I can focus more intentionally on the specific energies I want to work with in my spiritual practice. This is where I start and plan most of my spellwork, meditation, and journaling. It evolves often, shifting with the seasons, moon phases, or whatever themes I’m currently exploring. Because it’s a private space, I feel free to make it deeply personal, as a true reflection of my inner world and magical intentions.
Why I chose what I chose to decorate.
Both of my altars are currently dressed for the season, inspired by the energies of spring and the month of May. I wanted them to fully embody the spirit of renewal, growth, and prosperity, so every choice, from the colors to the symbols and the location, was made with intention. Let’s start with the colors. I’ve focused on fresh, vibrant hues that feel deeply aligned with spring. The two main colors I’ve chosen are green and purple.
Green is the color of the heart chakra, symbolizing emotional balance, compassion, and healing. It’s also strongly connected to renewal and growth, which is perfect for this time of year. Green brings in the nurturing energy of the Earth and is often associated with luck, abundance, fertility, and wealth. It helps us stay grounded while opening our hearts to possibility.
Purple, on the other hand, is linked to the crown chakra, which is our gateway to divine wisdom, intuition, and spiritual connection. This color invites deeper insight and helps strengthen our awareness of the energies within and around us. It’s especially powerful for enhancing meditation, dreams, and psychic work.
Together, these colors create a beautiful balance. They are grounding us in the physical world while opening the door to higher realms.
I chose specific crystals and shapes for this month’s altar, each selected with intention to support the energies of spring. This month’s stones include amethyst, satin spar, blue celestite, petrified wood, rose quartz, lava rock, and green onyx.
Amethyst enhances intuition and spiritual awareness, helping us connect to higher realms. It offers strong spiritual protection, promotes purification, and supports a calm, focused mind, which is especially useful during meditation and reflection. I chose pieces in rich purple hues to align with this month’s color theme and energy.
Satin Spar (commonly misnamed as selenite) is a beautiful crystal for purification and energetic cleansing. It raises the vibration of any space it’s in, clears away stagnant or negative energy, and can help create a protective energetic field around your space.
Blue Celestite is gentle yet powerful. It’s known for aiding communication with spirit guides and higher beings. It supports dream recall, astral travel, and clarity of mind. This makes it a wonderful ally for divination and inner exploration.
Petrified Wood is one of my favorite stones to work with. Deeply grounding and stabilizing, it connects us to the ancient wisdom of the Earth and our ancestors. It also helps unlock insight from our past lives and encourages rootedness in our spiritual path.
Rose Quartz radiates love, compassion, and peace. It soothes the heart and promotes harmony in relationships and sacred spaces alike. Its gentle energy brings emotional healing and warmth wherever it’s placed.
Volcanic Stone (Lava Rock) is raw, elemental, and grounding. It symbolizes transformation and rebirth. Helping to remind us that even from the most intense fires, new life can emerge. It’s also a stabilizing stone that helps us stay balanced during periods of change.
Green Onyx supports inner strength, emotional resilience, and wise decision-making. It’s grounding yet gently uplifting, absorbing negative energy while radiating a calm, protective aura. Perfect for times of growth and transformation.
Each of these pieces was chosen not only for its energetic properties, but also for how it supports the intentions I’ve set for this season: growth, clarity, connection, and abundance.
I also chose egg-shaped crystals for my altars. Their symbolism aligns perfectly with the energy of the season, representing fertility, new beginnings, and the potential for growth. They carry that gentle yet powerful reminder that this is a time of awakening, creation, and life blossoming in all forms.
This little beauty is a jade plant 😊
I wanted to include a living plant on my altar, something that could grow alongside my practice. As it thrives, so too, does the strength and energy of the altar itself. There’s something powerful about tending to a living being that’s energetically connected to your sacred space.
I chose the jade plant because it felt just right. Small, charming, and full of vibrant energy. Magickally, jade plants are known for their strong ties to prosperity and good fortune. They’re like little green talismans, believed to attract abundance, wealth, and positivity wherever they’re placed.
And honestly… it kind of chose me. While I was searching for the perfect plant to add, this one practically called my name.
These are seeds of life sacred geometry pieces.
The Seed of Life is a powerful symbol, representing the beginning of creation. It holds the energy of potential, growth, fertility, and expansion. To me, it’s a visual reminder that from even the smallest spark, something incredible can bloom.
I chose to include these pieces as a way to “plant” my intentions for the season. Just as seeds grow with time, care, and light, so too will the intentions and energies I’ve infused into my altar. It’s a gentle yet potent way to align with the rhythms of spring and honor the cycle of becoming.
This is one of my favorite sound bowls.
First off, I absolutely love the sound it makes. I’m pretty particular when it comes to chimes and meditation tones, but this one truly resonates with me. It has such a soft, clear ring that feels both grounding and uplifting.
I’ve placed it on my living room altar, and one of my favorite little rituals is greeting it in the mornings. It’s my way of saying “hello” to my home. It’s a small moment of connection that sets a peaceful tone for the day. At the same time, its sound helps to gently cleanse and refresh the energy of my space. It’s simple, but it brings a lot of joy and harmony to my daily flow.
This is a statue of mother earth.
I adore how detailed she is for such a small statue, every curve and feature feels intentionally crafted. She radiates the most beautiful and nurturing energy!
She’s depicted as pregnant, which ties in perfectly with the theme of this month: growth, fertility, and abundance. For me, her fertility doesn’t symbolize physical pregnancy, but rather the fertile ground of potential. The creative energy of all things waiting to bloom. She reminds me that this season is not only about what is, but what could be. The dreams, ideas, and intentions that are quietly taking root beneath the surface for me.
If you have any questions or if there’s something you'd like me to explain more deeply, feel free to reach out. I love sharing and connecting with kindred souls.
As we step deeper into the vibrant energy of spring and the sacred fire of Beltane, I hope sharing my altar setups and the intentions behind them has sparked some inspiration for your own practice. Whether you’re working with color, crystals, plants, or sacred symbols, remember that your spiritual space is yours to create. It should reflect your journey, your truth, and the energy you wish to welcome in.
There’s no one way to do this, so only do what feels right to your heart. Trust your intuition, follow the whispers of your spirit, and allow yourself the freedom to evolve with the seasons.
With Love ~
